Chapter 2

Raising Eleven Children

Mom:"Things at home were very busy with eleven kids; I had kids in college, high school, grade school, and kindergarten. When things got hectic, there were times I would decide to run over to St. Robert's Church. The doors were always open and I'd go in there and pray, "Dear God, not my will, but yours be done. I can't figure this out so you figure it out, and I know that you'll come up with a good solution. But give me the strength to bear with it." Then I'd leave and come back home."

Chapter 6

Just a Spooonful of Sugar

"Treat people how you would want to be treated" was what I often heard from my parents. They simply wouldn't tolerate their children talking down other people and finding fault with others. Another popular saying around our house was "If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all." As a result, I was purposely taught not to be critical of others.

Chapter 15

Faith - The Final Frontier

I have found that positive energy is uplifting, contagious and has a magnetic effect on those around me. It is a force that enlightens everyone within its presence. Negative energy, not surprisingly, has the exact opposite result. It spoils the human spirit, invites fear and often dwells on problems - not solutions.

Chapter 3

Growing Up #9 of Eleven

Our parents weren't big on presents at Christmas, so the family trips served as a memorable time together that allowed us to get to know each other better. It was a lasting gift because I know all my brothers and sisters well and have a deep respect for all of them. Family vacations were valuable to me as a youngster and are equally as important to me as a parent. They are one of the most effective ways to bring a family closer together because you create and share memories that last a lifetime.
